Ann Charlton (Application Services Consultant OCLC) welcomed delegates and introduced her colleagues Pam O'Connell (OCLC Support) and Julian McFall (Project Manager, National Catalogue) before giving a UnityUK Update presentation which covered data contributions, training opportunities, CIPFA Reporting and the progress to date regarding interoperability with Library Management Systems. Ann's presentation is available within the members' area of the UnityUK website www.unity-uk.com in Regions: North West: User Groups and Events.
Julian McFall then went on to introduce the UK Group Catalogue, a project between The Combined Regions (TCR) and OCLC to develop the first freely accessible national public library union catalogue in Britain. Containing the bibliographic data from 80% of UK public libraries, the service will make it possible for Web users to simultaneously search 9 million bibliographic records and 50 million holdings, making bibliographic data more discoverable on the open Web.
