A range of support services is provided to young people leaving care, including children who have been looked after by foster carers or in residential care.
The Children (Leaving Care) Act (2000) aims to improve the life chances of young people leaving care.
Our leaving care service works with young people who have been ‘looked after’ in residential homes or foster care beyond the age of 16 and for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14.
This service is offered to young people who have left care up to the age of 21, or 24 if the young person remains in education or training.
The leaving care service prepares young people for living independently, providing support an assistance with accommodation, finances and life skills.
The service also supports students in education or training; and provides help to find employment.
