Supporting people

Main Details

Supporting People services assist people to live as independently as possible. The range of services include supported and sheltered housing, refuges for women experiencing domestic violence, alarm services  for elderly people, home improvement agencies for older people  and ‘floating support’ where workers visit people in their own homes.

Are you:

  • A homeless person who needs support
  • A young person in need of support
  • A care leaver
  • An older person in need of support
  • A person  at risk of fleeing domestic violence
  • A person with mental health needs
  • A person with alcohol or/& drug problems
  • A person with physical disabilities and sensory impairment
  • A teenage parent
  • A refugee
  • A gypsy or a traveller
  • A person with a learning disability
  • An offender or ex-offender
  • Someone who needs support to live independently

Housing related support can include help to:

  • Avoid homelessness
  • Develop skills such as cooking, cleaning and dealing with mail
  • Find more independent accommodation
  • Get in touch with other services such as doctors, social workers or community organisations
  • Access work and training
  • Develop social skills
  • Deal with budgeting, completing benefit forms, and welfare rights;
  • Make and maintain social contacts 
  • Stay healthy and safe
  • Signpost to counselling/emotional groups which are appropriate to cultural needs

Housing related support services are provided by lots of different organisations. These may be private, voluntary, the local authority or your landlord.
If you want to access a Supporting People service please contact the service directly if you know the contact details.  If you don't know the contact the details of the service then please get in touch with the Supporting People team. (Please see contact tab above).

The Suporting People Team are responsible for checking that services provided by these different organisations are:

  • Good quality
  • Services that people want and are happy with 
  • Good value for money
