Benefits advice

Lancashire County Council's Welfare Rights Service provides free, independent and confidential advice and representation on benefits and tax credits for people living in Lancashire. Whether you are unemployed, sick or disabled, retired, a carer or on low wages, we can:

• help you get all the benefits you are entitled to
• advise and help you claim the right benefits
• explain how your benefits are affected if your circumstances change
• help you to appeal if you disagree with a benefit decision
• help you deal with other problems with your benefits.

We are not part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Useful websites

You can make online claims or download claim forms for some benefits on the Directgov website and you will find useful information about benefits and tax credits. Check if you are entitled to tax credits, social security benefits or Pension Credit by using the calculators under Useful Links to the right. You can also ask us for a full benefit check. If you have income bonds (or similar) linked to a life assurance policy you should ask us for a Pension Credit check if the calculator says you are not entitled. We have also listed other useful websites where you can get information about benefits and debt problems.

We cannot advise on debt but there are other organisations who can help.
