Alleygating schemes involve providing gates across local back streets and ginnels. The local District Community Safety Partnership tends to take the lead in identifying areas most likely to benefit from such treatment. These are usually in back streets where there is a high incidence of break-ins at the rear of properties or where the back street is used for anti social behaviour, drug dealing/usage, tipping rubbish etc. Contact should be made with the Local Community Safety Partnership via the Community Safety Officer. The decision to gate a back street depends on its status (adopted or unadopted) and the level of support from other residents as well as reported incidents.
