News: New Look School.
Thursday, 4th March 2004
Staff and pupils are making the most of their revamped school following a £350,000 investment.
Cabinet Member for Education, CC Alan Whittaker, visited pupils at Goosnargh Oliverson's C of E Primary School near Preston and enjoyed a guided tour of the new look building.
The improvements have included a security porch, a new classroom, a revamp of the infants' section including new toilets and the creation of a group meeting oom.
Two rooms in the junior school have been refurbished along with a new toilet block, the caretaker's office has been re-sited, the computer suite has been extended, the headteacher now has her own office and ramped access has been added to most exits and entrances.
The school also completed its new look image by opening a nursery last September.
Lancashire County Council, Blackburn Diocese and the Parents Teachers Association joined forces to provide the investment for the improvements.
Headteacher, Karen Jackson, said:
"The building work has made a big difference to both the pupils and staff as we were so short on space before.
"The new classrooms are absolutely brilliant and the parents are thrilled."
CC Whittaker said: "I was delighted to be invited to the school and see the improvements which have obviously made such a difference for the staff and children.
"The children made me feel extremely welcome and it was a joy to chat to them."
The school will hold an official ceremony to mark the building improvements on Tuesday March 16, at 1.15pm.
The Bishop of Lancaster, the Rt Revd Stephen Pedley, will perform the opening ceremony.
Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend.
