News: New-Bus Boost For Lunesdale

Monday, 22nd March 2004
(PR 1186)

Buses in Lunesdale are to get simpler to use and faster to use after Lancashire County Council approved the purchase of four new buses for rural services.

The Optare Solo buses will start running in May on routes in the Lancaster, Capernwray, The Kelletts, Carnforth, Arkholme, Kirkby Lonsdale and Hornby areas. With low floors, a modern layout and full access for disabled people the buses will be ideal to increase passenger numbers in the area.

County Councillor Jean Yates, Lancashire County Council Cabinet member for Transportation and Highways, said:

"This buses will be ideal for people such as mums who struggle getting on and off buses while laden down with shopping and children.

"Ease of use will benefit them and everyone who has found buses awkward to use in the past. We know these buses work as they have been tried elsewhere in the county - with beneficial results in terms of helping people get to and from services such as education and health as well as getting to friends and the shops."

The buses will be owned by Lancashire County Council and leased to bus operating companies.
