A former firefighter is set to take steps up a different ladder after being appointed Deputy Chairman of Lancashire County Council.
During the next 12 months, County Councillor Bob Wilkinson will support Chairman Nora Ward in representing Lancashire at events and functions.
Bob represents Haslingden and is Chairman of the Lancashire Combined Fire Authority. He has been a county councillor since 1993.
"I'm looking forward to supporting County Councillor Ward during her year in office.
"It's a wonderful honour to be chosen to represent the county in such an important role."
Originally from Oldham, Bob moved to Blackpool aged three. He attended Layton Junior School, before moving to Fleetwood where he attended Bailey Boys' School.
After a number of different jobs, he started aged 18 as a Retained Fireman at Fleetwood.
A year later he joined the Fire Service full time. Originally based at Heywood, he then moved to Ramsbottom, Accrington and Rawtenstall Fire Stations.
During his service he became an official for the Fire Brigades' Union, eventually becoming the North West Regional Secretary. He retired from the fire service in 1993.
Bob is a former member of Rossendale Borough Council (1995-2000) and served as Mayor of Rossendale from 1994-1995.
Bob has played football for a number of amateur teams across the North West, including the Lancashire Fire Service team, but now prefers to relax on the fairways and greens at Rossendale Golf Club.
