Building Schools For Future Tour

News: Building Schools For Future Tour

Tuesday, 15th June 2004
(PR 1407)

Anyone from Burnley, Nelson and Brierfield who would like to find out more about the exciting plans for the area's secondary schools will have a chance to visit Lancashire County Council's information trailer.

The trailer will be touring East Lancashire between June 21 and 24 to provide information on the Building Schools for the Future project which will transform secondary education in Burnley and Pendle.

Anyone who has a query about the plans or who would like to express an opinion is urged to come aboard the trailer and chat to County Council officers.

The £170m plans to create five brand new secondary schools in Burnley to replace the current eight schools and to replace three schools in Brierfield and Nelson with two new secondary schools were included on the Government's first wave of "Building Schools for the Future" funding earlier this year.

Every parent in Burnley and Pendle has received a consultation document via their child's school asking for their reactions to the plans.

Copies of the document are also available in libraries and County Information Centres.

County Council officers have already held surgeries for parents and staff at schools and community centres in Burnley and Pendle to answer any concerns.

The consultation ends on July 16 and all responses will be considered over the summer before any decisions are made.

The County Council's Cabinet Member for Education, CC Alan Whittaker, said:

"This is another opportunity for people to make their views known.

"County Council officers will answer any queries parents or any other members of the public may have.

"As I have already said, no final decisions have been taken and the more people who come forward to share their ideas, the better."

The trailer will be based at the following venues from 9.30am to 4pm.

June 21 Burnley town centre, between Boots and the Red Lion pub.

June 22 Padiham White Horse Hotel car park.

June 23 Brierfield Tunstall Square car park (behind the town hall).

June 24 Nelson precinct (Leeds Road entrance).
