News: Bridge Protection Works Start

Monday, 21st June 2004
(PR 1416)

Work has started on a scheme to protect a bridge connecting the Concourse in Skelmersdale with Whelmar House.

Engineers will be installing barriers to protect the bridge supports on Southway that will ensure they do not get damaged in the unlikely event of a vehicle collision. White lining on the road will also be altered as part of the scheme.

It is expected that the owners of the Concourse will replace the footbridge in 2005 with a new structure that will have supports well away from the road.

Work is scheduled to last two weeks and a temporary diversion will be in place for one day to allow for the installation of the concrete barriers.
