New Longton is this year's runner up in the large village category of Lancashire's Best Kept Village competition. Members of the Parish Council met with County Councillor Niki Penney, Chairman of Lancashire County Developments Ltd who sponsor the competition, to celebrate their achievement.
County Councillor Penney said:
"This year for the first time we are going out to all the winning villages to meet and congratulate the people who have worked so hard to gain success in the Best Kept Village competition.
"This competition is not just about being able to grow flowers and plants. The villages have to be neat and tidy and attractive to local people and visitors. It is all about building community spirit and encouraging people to take a real pride in their surroundings. I congratulate all the residents of New Longton and hope their award this year will encourage them to take part in the competition again next year."
