News : Brush up your skills on older driver course

PLACES are available on a popular course which helps older people to keep driving safely for longer.

The Drive Safely for Longer course has been developed by Lancashire County Council to boost confidence and improve safety for older drivers.

In Lancashire, there has been a considerable reduction in road user casualties among people aged under 65 over the past five years, but this has not been matched by a corresponding reduction in older casualties.

There are 100 spaces left on the free course which will be allocated on a first come-first served basis.

County Councillor Tim Ashton, Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "This excellent initiative has already helped a number of older people to continue to drive safely.

"We're not intending to catch drivers out and to take their licenses away from them. Far from it, our only aim is to help older people to remain behind the wheel safely."
