A BUS route linking Hibson Road, Nelson, with Burnley bus station has been restored thanks to funding from Lancashire County Council.
Following a review of bus services in Burnley and Pendle, the number 95 service will now run every hour during Monday to Saturday daytime from Monday 1 July. The service will replace the number 65 route, which currently runs from Hibson Road to Burnley General Hospital.
Transdev Burnley & Pendle previously operated a service between Hibson Road and Burnley Bus Station until around three years ago. However, it was discontinued by the operator at the time for commercial reasons.
Following a consultation with local residents, the county council has been able to reinstate this link within existing resources.
County Councillor John Fillis, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "We're pleased to re-introduce this service which will provide an important link between the two towns.
"Unfortunately, the route was not profitable for the company and was withdrawn. We've listened to local people and provided the funding needed for the route to continue.
"This was part of a review of subsidised bus services in Burnley and Pendle where residents were given the chance to have their say about the services they want."
County Councillor Azhar Ali, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, who also represents Nelson South, said: "Local people have wanted a service directly to Burnley Bus Station without needing to change buses in Nelson for a while.
"The number 65 route did run to the hospital, but we found that people wanted it to be extended to Burnley bus station giving them easier access to many facilities and amenities.
"The bus route will begin operating next week and will make a real difference to the local community."
The number 95 service will be operated by Holmeswood Coaches on behalf of Lancashire County Council.
