Developing school based childcare

Considering setting up childcare on a school site?

Did you know due to recent changes in legislation, Schools are now able to provide childcare as part of the School registration.  Schools can choose to provide childcare for children aged from 2 years old.  This can include providing a number of childcare types for example; a day nursery, a pre-school playgroup, holiday club or a breakfast or after school club.

What support is available?

We can arrange a visit and provide expert tailored advice to meet the specific requirements of your school, working with you to consider your options to provide a quality childcare solution that meets your parent's needs.

Your visit may include advice on:

  • How to find a private provider that can deliver childcare on your site.
  • How to set up childcare delivered by a Voluntary Management Committee.
  • The process to lower the school age to provide a maintained nursery class.
  • How to set up childcare under the governing body (section 27).
