Meet the Board

Meet the Board

As Lancashire is made up of Lancashire County Council and twelve District Councils it was agreed that three County Councillors and three District Council Councillors should sit on the Board. In addition, it was agreed that a representative from Third Sector Lancashire should sit on the Board who represents and acts as a voice for voluntary, community and faith groups across the county.

You can read about some of the members of the Lancashire Health and Wellbeing Board below.

Michael Wedgeworth

Michael Wedgeworth
I am a former Chief Executive of Hyndburn Borough Council and serve as an assistant priest at Blackburn Cathedral. In 2010, I was awarded the MBE for services to the community of Lancashire. I was Chair of Third Sector Lancashire until my appointment as Chair of Healthwatch Lancashire in June 2015.

Healthwatch acts as the independent voice of patients and users of health and care services.

My special interest is in ensuring that the public and community groups are aware of the changes being planned in the NHS and local government services and in seeking to influence these changes in their interests.

I have been a member of the Lancashire Health and Well-being Board since its inception, and also serve as the Healthwatch representative on the East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group.

Karen Partington

Karen Partington

I am the Chief Executive of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust,  running two acute hospitals in Lancashire.  I originally qualified as a nurse specialising in ophthalmology before changing my career direction into general management in Manchester, Liverpool and Lancashire.

I have a particular interest in how acute hospitals can work together more collaboratively to improve patient care. I am passionate about enabling clinicians to undertake leadership roles in the improvement agenda by aligning training and development to that purpose, focusing not only on academic rigour but including emphasis on resilience, empathy and compassion.
