The County Council has established committees to look at the various areas of its business. Some are required by law whilst others are discretionary.
Act as a check on the Cabinet by holding it to account for its decisions.
Joint committees set up in partnership with District Councils to carry out responsibilities that have been delegated to them.
Deals with any matters of urgency requiring a decision of the Full Council, which cannot await its next meeting.
Deals with applications for planning permission for waste disposal and mineral extraction and for developments proposed by the County Council.
Deals with claims relating to public rights of way and various licensing and registration functions
Sub committee of the Regulatory committee which deals with the maintenance and amendment of the Registers of Common land and Town or Village Greens.
Aims to ensure that Councillors and officers maintain the highest ethical standards.
Monitors the scope and adequacy of internal and external audits.
Administers the Lancashire County Council Fund.
Sub-Committee of the Pension Fund Committee which ensures that best practice standards are satisfied and met, and that the Fund is being run on an effective basis.
Sub-Committee of the Pension Fund Committee which assists the Committee in making necessary appointments.
Deals with the appointment and dismissal of the Chief Executive, the Executive Directors and Second Tier Officers.
These Committees were disestablished at mid-night on 31 March 2010.
