Supporting Teaching Assistants in Lancashire

Teaching Assistants are an extremely valuable personnel resource in our schools. The Recruitment and Retention team has been proactive in developing career ladders for Teaching Assistants over many years.

This has included:

  • delivering Access to Employment courses to help people find posts in schools
  • undertaking an input on the Teaching Assistant 4-day Induction Courses run by the LA, particularly to inform Teaching Assistants of courses and career routes available to them
  • supporting courses which are specifically designed not only to enhance Teaching Assistants' skills and knowledge as support staff in the classroom, but also to open up further opportunities should Teaching Assistants wish to gain further qualifications, such as a degree, or are looking to gain Qualified Teacher status
  • undertaking inputs on Headteacher & Management courses to advise on CPD for Teaching Assistants

The Recruitment & Retention Team are Project Managers of the Graduate and Registered Teacher Programme (GRTP) and as such ensure that Teaching Assistants are aware of GRTP.

The Recruitment & Retention Team share with regional LAs information sessions on possible routes into teaching for Teaching Assistants.

The Recruitment & Retention Team runs a day and evening information and advice helpline to provide guidance on an individual basis.
