Boomtown - From Front Line to White Lund

Date: Friday 27/10/2017

Repeats: Daily (10:00 AM to 17:00 PM)

Boom Town

This exhibition marks the centenary of devastating explosions at White Lund National Filling Factory 1-3 October 1917.

It explores the need for supplies and shells for front line troops, focussing on the local King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment; the building of shell-making and filling factories on Lancaster and Morecambe; war work and changes it brought to the district; the explosions and remarkable acts of bravery that saved so many lives at the works and around the area.

A programme of events and activities accompanies this exhibition including talks, walks and an Exploration Day at the Storey on 30th September, organised by the Regional Heritage Centre at Lancaster University. Go to the King's Own Museum website for all events details and lots more information about the collections and this anniversary:www.kingsownmuseum.com.

This exhibition would not have been possible without the support of many individuals and organisations. Our thanks go out to all involved and particularly to the Sir John Fisher Foundation, the Army Museums Ogilby Trust, Trustees of the King's Own Regimental Museum. Friends of Lancaster City Museum and Lancaster University.

Free entry. The exhibition ends on November 12th
